Special Issue: Advancing Teaching Innovation and Reform through Transdisciplinary Approaches: Supporting SDGs and Education for All

Special Issues Policy

Purpose of Special Issues

Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform recognizes the importance of advancing scholarship in teaching, learning, and related interdisciplinary fields. As new areas of inquiry emerge and established fields continue to evolve, there is a need for focused collections of research that provide deeper insights into specific themes, contemporary challenges, and emerging developments.

To facilitate such scholarly exchange, the Journal publishes Special Issues, which are thematic collections of high-quality research articles dedicated to a particular topic within the broad field of teaching and its related disciplines. Special Issues provide authors with a platform to contribute to a focused area of research while enabling readers to access a comprehensive body of current knowledge on a specific theme of academic and practical significance.

Proposal and Approval of Special Issues

Special Issues are led by one or more Guest Editors who possess recognized expertise in the proposed subject area. Individuals interested in organizing a Special Issue should submit a proposal outlining:

The title and scope of the proposed Special Issue.

Its significance and relevance to the Journal's aims and scope.

The proposed timeline for manuscript submission and publication.

A brief biography and affiliation of the proposed Guest Editor(s).

All proposals are evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and members of the Editorial Board. Approved proposals are announced on Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform's website together with the names and affiliations of the Guest Editor(s), the theme of the Special Issue, and important submission deadlines.

Promotion and Call for Papers

Following approval, a Call for Papers is issued describing the aims, scope, and key themes of the Special Issue. Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform, and Guest Editor(s) jointly promote the Special Issue to relevant academic communities, professional networks, research groups, and institutions worldwide.

Guest Editors are encouraged to actively engage with scholars in their field to attract high-quality submissions and broaden the visibility and impact of the Special Issue. Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform's editorial office will provide administrative and promotional support whenever required.

Peer Review and Editorial Standards

All manuscripts submitted to a Special Issue are subject to the same editorial and ethical standards applied to regular submissions. Every manuscript undergoes a rigorous double-blind peer-review process, ensuring fairness, objectivity, and scholarly integrity.

Acceptance of a manuscript is based solely on its academic merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the Special Issue theme.

Responsibilities of Guest Editors

Guest Editors are responsible for:

Conducting an initial assessment of submitted manuscripts for relevance, quality, and suitability.

Recommending qualified independent reviewers with expertise in the subject area.

Evaluating reviewer reports and providing editorial recommendations.

Ensuring that the review process is conducted fairly, professionally, and in accordance with the Journal's ethical standards.

Assisting in the development and promotion of the Special Issue.

Guest Editors may recommend acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts; however, the final publication decision remains subject to the Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform's editorial policies and oversight.

Conflict of Interest

To maintain editorial independence and transparency, Guest Editors who submit manuscripts to their own Special Issue will be excluded entirely from the editorial and peer-review process of their submissions.

Such manuscripts will be handled independently by the Editor-in-Chief, a member of the Editorial Board, or another designated editor. Independent reviewers will be appointed, and all review procedures will remain fully compliant with Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform's double-blind peer-review policy.

Editorial Office Support

Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform's editorial office provides administrative support throughout the Special Issue process, including:

Managing manuscript submissions.

Coordinating reviewer invitations and reminders.

Communicating decisions and revision requests to authors.

Monitoring deadlines and workflow progress.

Assisting with production and publication processes.

Submission Timeline

Special Issues generally remain open for submissions for approximately six months from the date of announcement. Manuscripts already under review may continue to be processed after the submission deadline; however, no new submissions will be accepted once the Special Issue has officially closed.

Publication of Accepted Articles

Accepted articles are published online after the completion of peer review, final editorial approval, production processing, and author proof correction. Published articles are assigned to the relevant Special Issue and are indexed through the same services and databases that cover Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform's regular publications.

Cancellation or Modification of a Special Issue

While every effort is made to ensure the successful completion of approved Special Issues, Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel a Special Issue if circumstances require. In such cases, manuscripts already accepted or under consideration may be transferred to a regular issue of Journal of Teaching Innovation and Reform, and all affected authors will be informed promptly.

Article Processing Charges

Articles accepted for publication in a Special Issue are subject to the Journal's standard Article Processing Charge (APC) policy. The APC is applied only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication and does not influence editorial decisions in any manner.
